When PRODUCTO works with customers its personal, it’s not PRODUCTO getting things done, it’s the interaction of our people with your people, working together to innovate and collaborate to achieve an outcome.

We specialise in the supply of apparel and merchandise to large corporate clients. We tend to thrive in the chaos that large corporates provide. We like to unpack their challenges and
provide solutions. We have always flourished in thinking beyond the product and supplying wraparound services that enable our customers to become more efficient and improve business outcomes.

I have been working in the corporate apparel and merchandise industry for more than 20 years. In fact, it was the first industry I stepped into after leaving university. I cut my teeth in the wholesale business, my company was supplying promotional product and uniform companies with products we stocked in our warehouse. Working with a range of distributors across the industry opened my eyes. There were some good operators, but many struck me as order takers who didn’t seem to add much value. I could see a clear gap in the market for a design-led, innovative, multi-channel product agency. In 2016, PRODUCTO was born.

Coming from this background in the industry and starting with an innovative mindset means we have never settled or stopped looking forward at how we can constantly re-invent and transform not only our business but the wider industry. We don’t conform to industry norms, we like to do our own thing, we thrive on innovation and want to lead and guide the industry to raise its level of overall professionalism.

Partnership with Barkers

In July 2023 the Barkers wholesale division was folded into PRODUCTO and the BMC Group took a 50% stake in the PRODUCTO business. PRODUCTO now works directly from the BMC Group head office. We are fully integrated into the group and work alongside the Barkers and Max teams.

 

Knowing we were aligned on values and culture was critical in our decision to merge. This move has further enhanced our culture, and whilst we maintain our independence, our team continues to thrive in this dynamic new environment. There is a real sense of mission, purpose and belonging. Each part of the business supports the other, although we are separate teams
and brands with different strategies, we are all aligned in working towards a common good.

As an iconic New Zealand brand, Barkers provided the perfect mix of style, function, affordability and 'New Zealand-ness'. The use of sustainable materials, in particular traceable New Zealand merino wool was a great brand fit and a nod to the local farming community. The premium positioning of the brand increases the perceived value of product, which, in turn makes staff feel more valued and inspired to wear company attire.
